The labs listed on this page are always changing. Every day labs are adopted and new labs join us while they wait for their new forever home. If you are interested in adopting one of these labs from Lab Rescue, please fill out our and send it to us online (or by fax or mail). Lab Rescue of the LRCP asks that you read about the entire before submitting your application. We often receive questions about why so few labs are approved for young children. You can read about how we make that determination in thesection of the website.
Please note that the website is not the most up to date source of information. Some labs may have been adopted before the website shows them as adopted.
Lab Rescue does its life saving work exclusively in the Mid-Atlantic region of the USA. We rarely adopt our labs outside of this region. The Mid-Atlantic includes Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington DC and Virginia.

Abby is an 18 month old spayed chocolate female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 63 lbs but needs to lose a few. X-rays taken at the shelter revealed that both of Abby's ACL's are torn and require surgery. Abby has received her first surgery and is recovering at her foster home.
Update from Abby's foster family - May 18, 2013
As Abby recovers from her surgery, she is proving to be a love bug that just wants to please her humans. She wags her tail when you just look at her...so cute! She wiggles her whole bottom half along with the tail when she wags. We didn't know that anyone could be so happy all the time.
While she is not allowed to run and play with her foster sister yet, she kisses and sits next to her four legged foster sister for company. When her human foster sisters are home, her favorite activities are cuddling, playing with toys (she hasn't met a toy that she didn't like), and pets of course!!! Abby is food motivated and is easy to train as she'll respond quickly to "treats". At the moment, we are working on walking nicely on a leash. She already mastered come, sit, and stay very well.
We call Abby "sunshine" because you can't help but smile when she looks at you. Abby would bring joy to any forever home.

Alice is a 7 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs, but no cats, and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 58 lbs.
Update from Alice's foster family 5/4/2013
Alice has been a wonderful house guest over the past few weeks. She settled in and immediately got into the household routine. Alice is perfectly behaved while alone during the workday, she has access to the entire house and we think she spends her time looking out the front window and napping. She knows sit, go lay down, come, and shake. Alice walks well using an easy walk harness and she's learned to sit on command as other dogs pass by, to avoid getting too excited. She enjoys retrieving her favorite squeaky toy and will drop it so it can be thrown again -- over and over!
Alice is a pretty, affectionate, low maintenance gal, who would enjoy a home as a solo dog where she will provide loyal companionship as she loves cuddling and if given the opportunity will climb up in your lap and fall asleep. She greets all humans with a very friendly hello and wants to be petted by everyone she meets and really enjoys riding in cars.

She is a bit shy but warms up quickly with some love and yummy treats. She knows some commands including sit and come but will benefit from training. She pulls a bit on a lead.

Bear is a 1 year old neutered chocolate male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 62 lbs. Bear recently underwent surgery to remove an embedded chain collar from his neck. He is recovering nicely and is expected to make a full recovery with some minor scaring. He knows his basic commands but, like all young labs, will benefit from training. He is walking with an EZ Walk harness until his neck wounds heal.
Update from Bear's foster family 5/16/2013:
Bear came directly to his foster home from the boarding kennel several days after he'd had surgery to remove an embedded chain collar from his neck and has settled in beautifully! He has exemplary house manners, is house trained and crate trained, although he does not require one. Because of his outstanding behavior, he has full run of the house even when his foster is away. He is very good about leaving things alone that have been placed on the kitchen counter or in the trash can and does not disturb human items, such as shoes or clothing. While he loves to play, he settles quickly and easily in the house when his humans are doing other things. Bear's favorite thing is being with people, but he's not pushy about it, patiently waiting for attention - and LOVING to snuggle and get belly rubs! He's PERFECTION in a furry coat!
Despite all that Bear has been through, he is a very joyful Lab! He has a healthy dose of youthful exuberance balanced with a calm, stable temperament and a high desire to please his humans. Bear knows basic obedience commands, loves to play fetch, has a rocket recall, and does well on walks around the neighborhood and rides in the car. In meeting new dogs on his walks, he happily greets them, indicating a desire to play. Bear appears to be a very athletic dog, and would enjoy regular walking or jogging with a human companion.
Bear loves to interact with people and will immediately offer a "get to know you" ball in an attempt to get a game going. He sleeps solidly through the night, either on his own dog bed in the bedroom or on the people bed, and arises when his humans do, letting them know that a nice breakfast would be greatly appreciated!

Ben is a 4 year old yellow neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 76 lbs.
Update from Ben's foster family - 5/19/2013
Ben is doing fantastic. He is very sweet and affectionate, and completely loves his humans. When I say that… I mean he REALLY loves his humans. Ben’s morning routine is getting up and going outside to do the necessary business, going inside to get breakfast and take a few bites… but Ben doesn’t finish. Why you may ask? Because if someone is still upstairs Ben wants to snuggle in bed with them, because snuggling is simply the best.
Ben is pretty mellow, and as long as he gets some daily exercise, he is happy to hang out and cuddle, or play with a toy on his dog bed. He likes to be in the same room with us, but doesn’t need to be on top of you... He just wants to be nearby and get the occasional hug. He has great house manners and only chews on his toys. He is learning the joys of kitchen clean up and the wealth of tasty treats besides cheese… Though cheese is still a favorite, but bacon is becoming a close second!
Ben does well with the resident dog, but they typically ignore each other. He may however look to her for guidance on meeting new people. He has gotten to know the neighborhood and typically ignores strangers while we are out on our walks or in the backyard. Occasionally he will try to strike up a conversation, but is learning that he may get what he wants (typically cheese) quicker if he is quiet and smiles. He is very sweet, and very much wants to please the people around him!
Ben is a great, gorgeous big boy that is going to make someone very lucky if they have the time and patience to let him get comfortable and give him the training and socialization that he needs and craves. He loves people but is a bit timid at first but warms up quickly, especially when you go slowly. With time, patience and training however I am confident Ben is going to be the perfect dog in a quiet, mellow setting.

Bentley is a 7 year old neutered chocolate male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 90 lbs and should gain about 5 lbs. Bentley is a sweet and friendly boy who enjoys meeting other dogs and people.
A Note from Bentley- 5/3/2013
Hello…My name is Bentley and I am a big, handsome chocolate lab. I have a big blocky head (more room for lab smarts) and expressive golden eyes. I am a very good listener and will cock my head from side to side while you talk. I will talk back to you when I have something important to say. Currently I am living with 4 other canine friends. We all get along great. I am respectful of the older ones and play with the younger one. I like to play ball in the backyard. I will bring it back to you if you promise to throw it again. I will even bark to remind you.
I love to go for walks in the neighborhood. I want to meet all the other dogs and people on our walks. My foster mom says I am pretty good on the leash. She walks 3 of us at one time. On Saturday I went to visit my foster grandma. I was good in the car and at grandma’s. She did not have any bones so she fed me some cheeseJ. I sure did like that. She said I was a very good boy.
I am house trained and learning about the crate. I don’t bother anything around the house. I love my dog beds and will snuggle with you on the couch if a really good show is on. I would love to find a family where someone would help me gain confidence to be the best dog that I can be. I love to be with my humans.
Hope to hear from you soon….Bentley

Bogie is a 2 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and must go to a home with another dog. He's good with cats and is approved for kids aged 3 and up. He weighs 42 lbs. Bogie is a silly guy with lots of energy. He likes to play with humans and to wrestle with other dogs. He was found with another dog and needs to go to a family with another playful dog. Even though he's an active guy he's unusual in the he can play like a puppy but settle nicely like an older dog.
Update from Bogie's foster family 5/17/2013:
Bogie is great. He has a great smile, and is an active 2 year old, but settles nicely after play time. He will make someone a fantastic companion - he really loves to interact with his humans and fellow labs. I am not sure who is happier me or my labs! He LOVES toys, and is food motivated. He is a smart dog who loves to please.

Buddy is a 5 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 65 lbs. Buddy can't walk on his from left leg. He was hit by a car in 2008 and a broken leg wasn't treated and he now has nerve damage and muscle atrophy but it doesn't slow him down a bit.
A note from Buddy - May 12, 2013
My name is Buddy and my foster mom suggested that I tell you a bit about myself. My foster mom tells me I am a cutie pie so am sure that you want to know more. I love walks, and I am very good on a leash. I don't pull at all and I love to meet new friends, both human and k-9. I always walk up to them tail wagging. I have a foster brother and sister with me right now and I enjoy hanging out with them but what I really enjoy is just hanging out in the house with my foster family. I like to lay down next to where they are.
I do have a leg that I don't get much use of but, do not let that worry you for a minute! I play in the back yard with my brother and sister and it doesn't slow me down a bit. My foster house has a lot of stairs and I get up and down with out any issue, in fact, sometime I beat my foster brother and sister. When I want to, I do use my leg, mainly when I sit and/or to get you to pet me - it is my little trick. :) My foster mom says I am a perfect gentleman in the house, I just lay down and I am very calm. I don't even need to be crated. I have the perfect house manners. Did I mention how smart I am? I know, sit, stay, come, shake, down, and get on your bed. I will do fine in a home with or without brothers and sisters for me. I am low energy dog and used to live in apt and that was fine with me but if you have a yard, I am not going to turn it down. Did I mention I love treats? I take them very gently. My foster mom said not to forget to tell you how sweet I am. She also calls me a lover boy...

Update from Coco's foster family 5/17/2013:
She is really sweet. Her tail has been wagging non stop and she has been sniffing everything...She had no idea what the cat was and decided to leave the room where the cat was sitting. Coco has the biggest brown eyes and the best lab lean. She has been very sweet with my dogs and wants to be with them but she is not crazy with them. They do not have her energy level and so far she is respectful of it.

Dobby and Buster are best friends and very dependent on each other, so we are keeping this sweet pair together. They share food and water bowls. They've always lived together, so we don't want to separate them. Dobby is a 4 year old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartwomr negative. He weighs 96 lbs. Buster is a mised breed neutered male about 12 years old. He's up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. They are both approved for kids aged 10 and up.
Update from Dobby and Buster's foster family:
Looks-wise Dobby and Buster are ‘The Odd Couple’ but they are adorable together. Buster will clean Dobby's ears then convince him to play while Dobby is very careful not to play too hard and overwhelm the smaller Buster. Dobby discovered a tennis ball in the yard and had fun retrieving it. Once he dropped it, Buster would pick it up, walk around with it, then give it back. They share bones, food and toys very nicely. Dobby is a typical Lab - always carrying around something in his mouth, investigating everything, and enjoys sitting on the loveseat watching out the window while Buster curls up on the dog bed. With the beautiful weather they both enjoyed being outside in the fenced in yard exploring, playing, and just hanging out in the warm sun. In fact, they kept asking to go out until they heard dishes rattling then decided they would rather hang inside. Initially they both looked at me for human food but when they realized I wasn't sharing they went about their business. Dobby and Buster both like playing ball. Dobby can hold THREE balls in his mouth at once but he forgets to bring them all back. Or, he'll drop one or two then chase the one you throw with one already in his mouth. Buster likes to chew on the balls once he gets them.

Emma is a 5 year old spayed yellow female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids of all ages. She weighs 103 lbs and needs to lose about 20.
Update from Emma's foster family 5/17/2013:
Meet Super Emma! She is a happy and energetic sweety that is good with other dogs and great with kids. Emma doesn't counter surf, get into the trash, dig holes in the yard, or have accidents in the house. She lies quietly under the table during dinner, doesn't beg for food, or even try to get on the furniture. She loves to go for walks. Emma has shown some pure joy this week when my husband gets home from work. She runs to him barking and wagging, and starts this bounding zoomie stuff back and forth from him to me. She is so cute! Emma is looking for a home with a fenced yard and a family that understands her needs with plenty of exercise, playtime and long walks every day. She loves to swim and retrieve! In return, you will be rewarded with a constant companion and best friend.

Handy rode very quietly in the car and just looked out the window. He had no trouble jumping in and out of the car. Handy is house trained and happy to go for walks. He's going to make someone very happy.

Harley is an 18 month old spayed yellow female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 70 lbs.
Update from Harley's foster family 5/12/2013:
Harley is polite and house trained. She is loving and while she enjoys the other dogs and playing, she is mostly attached to people. She is eager to please and once exercised, is very docile. She walks well on leash and comes when called. She has met many other dogs on the river walks and is always passive. She is a larger female and is fun throwing ball in the backyard or playing with her toys.
Harley is not destructive and has not had any issues while not crated while we are away. She learns quickly and gets many human queues that even our other dogs do not. Harley is good on leash and if you have the luxury of a trail, she will walk right by your side without leash. She has been trained to walk by your side. She will make a very lovable & loyal companion to a family with or without other dogs.

Hawkins is sweet as can be! A complete and total people and dog's dog. He's a glutton for affection and a constant companion. He loves to play, goof around and trot. He also immediately calms down when playtime is done or its time for bed. He is completely house broken and would be a wonderful family dog! He's been very sweet to our resident lab and has left our cat alone. He walks well on a leash and knows “sit” and “stay.” He takes treats gently and enjoys ear rubs.

Jake is a 7 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and cats and is approved for kids aged 5 and up. He weighs 58 lbs. He has lots of energy for his age and many people think he's still a puppy. He's a friendly guy who can settle down after he's had his walk, especially if he has a bone to chew on. He has great house manners and enjoys being a sofa companion. He know sit, down and leave it.

Jake is a 7 year old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 56 lbs and could stand to gain a few. He has a great and happy spirit about him. He's full of energy.
Update from Jake's foster family - 5/18/2013
Jake is doing great. His manners improve every day. He will sit and wait before I step out of the door. At feeding time he will follow, very close mind you, but stays from under foot. He is eager to please and does very well.
Jake has great home manners. He hesitates before jumping up on anything. When he does, it is not long lived and then leaves the furniture. The exception here is the bed. He loves being in the bed and is quick to be cuddly with you.
Jake doesn't need to be crated and has freedom of the house and he has been perfect. In fact, the reason he was let out of the crate was his insistence that the dog bed in the crate was to be on the outside. He demonstrated this by pulling it out so that he could lay on it. That was fun to watch :-) Jake would prefer a home with someone around more than not. Jake is a smart boy and will benefit from continued training. He is learning how to play and really has fun. He does play with toys. In fact, he loves take the stuffed toys and tossing them in the air and catching them. At first he did not get the concept of fetch. He is starting to bring the toy back to me. I think he now gets that I will throw it again. Jake is a goofy guy with moderate energy who likes to go for walks and enjoys playing with other dogs. He is happy go lucky and enjoys hanging out and soaking up the sunshine. Jake knows sit, down and stay.

Jewel is a 6 year old spayed black female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 54 lbs. She is being treated for a skin condition that could be the result of allergies or of a previous case of mange but she's not contagious. She's receiving weekly medicated baths and is starting on a healthy diet that will get her looking lots better soon. She has a sweet and calm disposition. She loves to play with a tennis ball.
Update from Jewel's foster family May 17, 2013:
Jewel is a very sweet well behaved lady. She does not jump, she walks well on a leash, rarely barks, very friendly, loving and my constant shadow. She is house trained and doesn't need to be crated. She knows sit and is learning more every day. She is eating well and we are working on filling in all that skin.

Johnny is a 2 year black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 7 and up. He weighs 57 lbs.
Update from Johnny's foster family 4/25/2013:
I call him "Johnny Hot Pants" cause he races around the yard like a madman. He actually responds to 'Hot Pants' and goes into full wiggle mode when I call him.
Johnny is really such a lover! He loves to cuddle and snuggle and would be a lap dog if you let him! He is doing really well on leash and loves to romp and play in the yard! Kid age has been lowered to 7 and up. He would be OK with younger kids if they are dog saavy. He is great with the foster's young son but is a typical youngster and may knock smaller kids over by accident

Junior is a 4 year old chocolate neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive and is currently receiving treatment. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 46 lbs and should gain about 10 lbs. Junior knows some commands, but like any young lab will benefit from formal obedience training. His coat has some sun bleaching from being an outside dog. He also has Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLS), a benign skin disease which causes scaling and loss of pigment on his nose, suspected to be sun induced.
Update from Junior's foster family - 4/5/2013
Junior loves to take walks through the woods exploring any new smells along the way. We never hurry, more slow walks as he makes his way around the path. We take our time and make sure we cover all of the bases, stopping to see things and enjoy the fresh air along the way. His idea of playing ball is to quietly pick it up when his foster brother drops and then proudly carry it all the way back to the house. He gets along so well with both of his foster lab brothers as they share toys and lay close together quietly enjoying naps throughout the day. They stand in line awaiting drinks of water or waiting on me to finish putting food together at mealtime. Junior's work on sit, wait and gentle improves each day. No matter what he is doing he will always stop and come up to me for some love as I tell him how wonderful he is. His response is still snorting and big eyes always talking with love and appreciation. He loves a frozen Kong filled toy in his crate if I need to be gone for a short period of time or he just needs some quiet time. He also has mastered a Smart Ball knowing that if he rolls it around the treats will come out, so we often find Junior nose on the ball rolling it around the front room down the hall and back again. After a bit of mental exercise or a slow walk outside it is time for a nap and the sofa is always a great spot or on the carpet with his foster brothers. If the cat passes by, a short sniff to make sure all is well satisfies both of them and then the cat is off to his napping spot for another long afternoon.
With his heartworm he needs a quiet and slow life for a while, but he has gained strength and put on a few pounds in the past few weeks now weighing in at 53lbs. As long as his world is quiet during this time without great excitement, as long as someone cares for him and loves him greatly, things look brighter for his future. He is a very special guy and needs someone to be as special as he is to fill his life forever more. I sometimes think that he stops to look for that family as we walk along the way. Even though he is attached to us, it is if he knows there is just one more stop in his life, one more sofa that has a spot just for him in a home filled with love that will never end.

Junior is a 7 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive; Lab Rescue will pay for his treatment. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 71 lbs.
Update from Junior's foster family - 5/18/2013
Junior is settling in very nicely. He gets along well with our three adopted labs. He is surprisingly well behaved considering he was kept mostly outdoors, but he loves being inside with everyone else. He will follow you around if you are up and about and when you sit down he will sit right down next to you. He is a very happy, lovable boy and his tail is always wagging away. Junior does not jump up on any of the furniture nor does he do any counter surfing. He takes his pills and treats very gently. He loves to go for rides in the car. Junior knows the commands “sit” and “come” and we are working on “stay”. He has started playing with a large tennis ball and has found that he likes to go chase it down and bring it back to you. As soon as it warms up a bit, we will see if he likes to swim in the pool

Her fur is growing in and getting thicker and you can tell she is feeling so much better. She is such a wonderful sweetheart.
When we took her for morning swim and walk today, she was doing great meeting people and other large dogs. She has wonderful charm and everyone who meets her loves her. She has a high prey drive so it may be best for no cats. Lita is very sweet, patient, laid-back, and friendly. She also learns very quickly and now knows sit, down and roll over. Lita is house trained, and is very patient during baths and ear cleaning. She rides calm and quiet in the car and walks nice on lead.

Can you believe this sweety found herself tossed to the curb at the ripe old age of 10. Not literally of course, but it hurt just the same. Maggie is so hoping for a forever family that will be home more than not to love and to spend her golden years with.
What a jewel! Maggie is like the spunky old lady that still cuts her own grass and won't let anyone bring her down for any reason! She plays mama to everyone here and makes sure they are acting right - so funny! She is such a sweetheart who not only gets along with other dogs and loves all people, she is great with chidren of all ages. She has adjusted seamlessly to our routine. Maggie is house and crate trained but because of her wonderful house manners, she may not really nead one. She is however very food driven and it's best to keep everything away from her eye and nose level! Maggie likes to go for walks on a leash and rides well in the car. She knows the commands "sit,", "up," "easy", "stay", "drop it" and "lay down." She will make someone looking for a sweet, southern belle very happy!

Marlow is a 2 year old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive; Lab Rescue will pay for his treatment. He is good with with dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 63 lbs. Marlow loves everyone he meets and everyone loves him. He has a real goofy and happy go lucky spirit. He rides well and walks well on leash.
Update from Marlow's foster family - 5/18/2013
Marlow rides amazing in the car. He was my little copilot! He put his butt on the backseat his front paws on the floor board with his head next to mine and was just watching the road pass by. It was the cutest thing! He went readily into the crate and didn't make a peep, even though he was in the other room. He has a very exuberant attitude and is curious about everything. He didn't pull on the leash when we went on a walk. I will have more after we get to know each other better.

Max #2 is a 8 year old yellow neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heart worm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 58 lbs. Max enjoys the company of other dogs.
Update from Max's foster family 4/30/2013
Max is such a fun foster! He loves his toys and will walk around the house with one in his mouth. When we go outside, he will wait and let me go out the door first and then he will follow - what a gentleman! Max likes going for walks and is a strong boy so an easy walk harness is a must. He is a very easy boy and does well in a house with lots of commotion and other dogs including some very small and yappy ones. He has such great house manners has the run of the house!
Max likes to lay on the patio or on the grass in the sun. He LOVES my husband and son. He likes his treats and loves to cuddle with his people. He is a smart boy and very affectionate. He enjoys being petted, doted on and likes it when you talk to him. He'll even nudge you with his nose to keep your focus on petting him. He also has the typical love of water! If someone is home more than not that would be great if not, he's best with another dog around. We are enjoying having him. He is a lot of fun!

Midnight and Princess are a bonded pair of 8 year old spayed female labs. Midnight is black and Princess is yellow. Both are up to date on their shots. They are approved for kids aged 10 and up. Midnight weighs 65 and Princess has slimmed down to an almost perfect weight of 50. They would like a home without other dogs and no cats.
Update from their foster family - 5/3/2013
The “girls” are more comfortable and sociable every day. They are interested in any attention we can give them and greet us when we see them. They have gotten better at coming when called, but are more responsive to Jerry than me (and I’m the one feeding them!). They have improved so much in new situations. They are becoming happy and well adjusted ladies.
They definitely would love a home that can give then lots of attention. They sit on command, whether in or out of the crate. They “pause” when told to “stay” or “wait,” so we’re still working on that one. They love their walks, and do well on the leashes. They have nice energy and are a lovely pair.
They have both lost weight and look very good now. They are really cute together and are a lot of fun with their interest in everything! They will make a family two really loving house pets who follow you around, etc. (just in case you drop something). They are comfortable either in their crates or on a big puffy dog bed by the door - they have never gotten on the furniture and have great house manners. They have learned to walk on leads and are not pulling as much; tails up etc. They love to be loved and return the affection. They will hang out together in the same crate or bed, are very comfortable with each other and are also very playful. Cats are still a no-no.
Generally, if someone wants two very pretty, active older girls who accept as much love as you want to give, these are the ones. You just have to see the two of them together to see what a sweet, spry, bonded pair they are! In short, they have good looks, cute faces, great personalities and are just extremely loveable.

Misty is a 9 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs but not cats, and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 47 lbs and should gain a few. Misty is a very sweet, friendly and gentle girl who has no idea she is 9!
A Note from Misty- 5/12/2013
Are you searching for a loving companion and best friend? Tired of all the demands of a younger pup? I have the answer! My name is Misty and I have much to offer in the way of companionship and love. I spent my early years nurturing and loving many a demanding puppy and now I'm ready to settle down in a quiet environment where someone will shower me with some TLC. Here's what I can offer to a relationship. I am friendly, bond quickly and love to keep my humans company. I'm a great walking partner and jump right into my harness when it comes out. When you just want to laze around I can do that, too. I am great at cuddling and love to snuggle up. My manners are superb! Sometimes I go into the crate to rest but I don't need to use one when home alone. I know commands such as "sit" and "touch". I'm intelligent and eager to learn new things. I also love the rewards that come along with learning!
What I would like from a relationship is someone who will shower me with attention and give me some belly rubs and stroking. I need a home without a cat and someone who can tolerate, and work with, my squirrel distraction on walks. I like to meet and greet dogs who are calm, but I'm not comfortable with excitable dogs or dogs who jump on me...who is! I live with another 9 year old Lab in my foster home and we get along fine because she knows my preference for calmness. But I could very easily be happy as an only dog. I do love to go for road trips and am a good car rider. I am so compliant with grooming, and body handling in general. I'll even roll on my back and let you cut my nails. When you're finished you can reward me with a belly rub.
Basically I'm a low maintenance dog who is just looking for two reliable meals a day, a walk or two, and some much deserved attention and belly rubbing. In return you get a quiet, well behaved, devoted companion who will bring joy and sunshine into your home. I'm a mature active adult and that comes with so many benefits. My foster said that if she were looking to adopt from Lab Rescue I would be the one, but she explained that her role is to help dogs like me prepare for their forever home. I know I sound too good to be true, but I truly am a gem. You must meet me to appreciate all that I have to offer. We could have a tail wagging time together -- mine never stops!

Parker is a 2 year old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive; Lab Rescue will pay for his treatment. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 63 lbs. Parker is a beautiful young lab with lots of energy and will do best in a home with an experienced dog owner who will give him a lot of exercise.
Update from Parker's foster family - 3/28/2013
Parker is a great dog. Life is progressing well and he is settling in to a nice routine. He gets a number of good walks a day and is getting more comfortable around cars and trucks that pass by. He is great fun, loves to play and is generally gentle. He crates easily and is always very happy to see me when I return home. Parker likes to retrieve and play in the fenced back yard. He is crate trained and house trained. He has plenty of energy and will benefit from additional training. Parker is not good with cats and gets along better with mellow dogs. He adores his humans and will gladly give kisses to anyone who is willing to receive them. He loves to have his ears or shoulders scratched. Parker is an absolute goof with his toys. He seems to favor the plush toys, and loves tossing them around and catching them as they fly through the air. Squeaker toys are also a lot of fun and he will happily chew on one and carry it around. Nylabones and Kongs can be fun… but not nearly as much fun as the stuffed or squeaking toys. He is a very good boy.

Pete his a 7 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 8 and up. He weighs 79 lbs. Pete is always wagging his tail. He knows some commands including sit, shake, lay down and stay. He is lovable, friendly, calm and swet. He loves to carry things around and enjoys playing frisbee and tug of war.
Update from Pete's foster family 5/8/2013:
Pete is a "love me" dog. His face, noise or paw is right there under your elbow or in you lap, hoping for your touch. Sweet, Sweet, Sweet! He has blended well with our routine and thinks that beds were made just for him. We have gone to the dog park once and he played well there. We are enjoying having him!

Quincy is a 9 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs but thinks cats are fun to chase. He is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 81 lbs. Quincy loves a good rub and will sit all day long if you pet him. He is very low key but is getting more alert and more interested in squirrels, cats and little critters. He walks well on a leash.
Update from Quincy's foster family - 5/12/2013
Quincy has endeared himself to everyone in the family, human and canine—even the most alpha of the canines! He is a wonderful combination of gentility and strength. He takes treats gently, waits patiently for his dinner, and quietly puts his head in your lap to be petted. On the other hand, he doesn’t allow his physical weakness to keep him from doing what he wants--like climbing to the top floor of the townhouse to be with the rest of the family or going for long walks to explore the neighborhood. He has wonderful house manners.
Quincy loves chewing on bones, keeping track of the squirrels, cuddling with the other dogs, and having his ears scratched. If there is nothing else to do, he curls up on his bed, as close as possible to his human, and goes to sleep! Quincy is the perfect canine companion, who wants nothing more than to be at your side.
Quincy’s tale is one of determination and survival.
Quincy, a 9-year-old male yellow lab, came to Lab Rescue after spending his early years living in an auto parts yard. He didn’t receive basic care nor much food and water. After the auto parts yard closed for good, Quincy was left there to fend for himself. A former employee tried to stop by once a week to give him some food and water for a while, but eventually contacted animal control and alerted them to Quincy’s predicament. Quincy was picked up by authorities and brought to an area animal shelter. Quincy quickly stole the hearts of the staff at the shelter (and of the volunteers at Lab Rescue) and we were thankfully able to give him the second chance he deserves.
Despite his rough start in life, Quincy loves people and attention. He’ll even nudge your hand to let you know he’s still there and would appreciate any affection you’re willing to give.
Because he was kept in a small area, rarely allowed to stretch his legs, and was severely malnourished, Quincy came to us with severely weak back legs. Quite the determined guy, he has worked hard to strengthen his legs. When he first came to Lab Rescue, he could only walk very short distances and then would need a break. But once he got that break, he was determined to keep walking. He was unable to easily take stairs, but with lots of practice, he can now climb stairs on his own.

Rory is a 2 year old fox red neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. Rory weighs 63 lbs. No cats for Rory - he's too interested in them. He's a sweet guy.
Update from Rory's foster family - 5/21/2013
Rory is a sweetie and beautiful (handsome I guess)! He didn't want to get in the car but after I picked him up and shut the door he sat in the back of the car the whole ride back to my house, no problems. He did great on our walk, I used an easy harness with him and he walked right beside me the whole time almost stepping on my toes half the time!
He and the resident dog are getting along well, they played and chased each other around the back yard several times already. He already knows sit and down. Other than that he either has just been following me around or laying down just hanging out.

Roses is a 4 year old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and needs to go to a cat free home. He is approved for kids aged 6 and up. He weighs 66 lbs. Roses/Rudy just wants to make you happy. He likes to snuggle with you and get petted. He would love to be a lap dog. He is a lovebug. He likes to be with you when you are home and waits patiently when you are gone. He sleeps soundly at night and if he is allowed, he will get up on the bed to be close to you. He has great house manners. He does not counter surf. He is house trained and is good for an eight hour day. He is crate trained but does not like it and is best in a home where it is used sparingly. He must have a human who will be with him outside at all times. He will jump a fence if left by himself but will stick with you if you are outdoors with him. He would do wonderfully with a someone who would enjoy agility or other training. Roses/Rudy is an active dog and needs daily exercise. He enjoys running, hiking and outdoorsy stuff. He likes to play with other dogs and with chew toys. He will swim on a hot day but he is not passionate about it.

Samm is a 9 month old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 50 lbs. He's a typical, goofy, young lab. He walks pretty well on a leash. He's very activity and social though a bit clumsy.

Samson is a 3 year old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 62 lbs. Samson is a great dog and is eager to please his human. He loves to be showered with love, kisses and belly rubs. He gets excited at walk time and meal time, but will sit and wait when asked. He has great focus when food or tennis balls are involved.
Update from Samson - 5/7/13
Samson has settled nicely into our household. He is very smart and wants to please, and just be with his human. He enjoys exploring my wooded (fenced) lot. He now seeks out affection and loves ear rubs and belly rubs. He enjoys chewing a large Nylabone, follows it willingly into his crate, where he sleeps, on a soft blanket. He needs training on a lead, as he pulls, but should learn quickly with the right handler.
He doesn't counter surf, and shows good manner when people are eating. He might show interest as food is being put on the table, but obeys when told it's not for him and sits and lays down quietly. He also knows his name, we call him Sammy and Sam. I was able to get him into a down/stay with him at the bottom of the stair, and me at the top. We have a baby gate there to keep two cats upstairs. And after the 3rd time of telling him he couldn't come upstairs with me, he got the message. And stayed where I told him to, when he couldn't see me, and didn't move until I returned (maybe 5 or 10 minutes later). My praise was sufficient reward for him.
I had no trouble with him and my resident dog, and he seemed to recognize that the resident dog is older and might not want to play. He has little bursts of energy when he first comes in from outside, where he might bark and run around in excitement, but is easily distracted by a toy and responds to the command "settle down. Took him to the dog park, there were half dozen other dogs, all smaller, and he was fine with them. He's an excellent retriever, loves to retrieve and is more interested in his ball than playing with other dogs. The people at the park fell in love with him.

She is all puppy and is learning about toys, loves to retrieve and run around the yard with a toy in her mouth. She goes out playing with 4 other dogs with no problem. Once she meets you she is your best friend. Sasha hasn't had much training yet and walks better with an EZ walk harness.

Sassy and Buster are a bonded pair who must be adopted together. They are approved for kids aged 4 and up. Buster is a 7 year old neutered yellow male and Sassy is a 7 year old spayed black female. They are both up to date on their shots and are heartworm negative.
Sassy is a sweet and riendly girl. She loves to be petted and touch and does the wiggle and drop for love where she greets with a wiggle and then drops to the ground so you know that her belly hasn't been rubbed for a bit. She enjoys walks and playing outside. She would prefer a quiet life in the country and a home with a fenced yard.
Buster loves to swim as well as go for walks. He's a sweet and friendly boy.
Update from their foster family - 5/21/2013
Sassy and Buster are just pleasant and undemanding dogs, easy to care for, easy to fall in love with. They have had a great week and are beginning to reveal a little more of their lovely personalities. Sassy now freely moves throughout the house including the stairs. Going up was easy, but mastering the descent was a little harder. Each night the dog toys get put away, and each morning Sassy brings the toys, one at a time, back to her crate where she can keep an eye on them and have them close when it’s time for a nap. Even better news is that Buster has started playing fetch along with his foster sibling. With his big, beautiful head, he can probably carry four or five tennis balls at a time, but he is happy with one and always gives it back as soon as requested. This is helping with his weight loss, too, and you can see real progress in his girth. Sassy sometimes plays along, but her legs are shorter and she can’t keep up with him. Both of them enjoy wandering around in the yard and rolling in the grass or playing with each other indoors. Buster is generally within 6 inches of a person and wagging; Sassy loves attention just as much and is the master of the drive-by licking.
They know the “sit” and “down” commands, are quick to come when called and are comfortable with crates. Sassy will go into her crate for naps and prefers to sleep there at night. They’re good with other dogs but are clearly closely bonded and must stay together. Both of them have wonderful smiles which they would be very happy to share with you.

Stanley is an 8 year old yellow neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 63 lbs and should gain a few. Stanley is a goofy boy who rides very well and is crate trained. He has lots of love and spunk.
Update from Stanley's foster family - 5/3/2013
Stanley is doing great has learned many commands. He now comes when you call him even if it's in the opposite direction of food. He knows "sit," "stop," "off" and "down" and we're now working on the hand signal for "down". He's a bright little guy who learns quickly. All Stanley really needed was some love and reassurance for his true wonderful self to come out. He has also improved greatly on the counter surfing. I tell him "off" and he gets off. Sometimes he will sit next to me as I stand next to the stove and cook. Is he saying he wants cooking classes? His house manners have improved as well. He will chase a ball now and runs like mad to get it. He's got a TON of energy.
Stanley now has learned "crate." He'll go there, sight unseen, from the family room if he thinks he's getting a treat. When he gets out of his crate in the morning, he runs to the front door and jumps against it. No doubt in our minds that he wants his walk. This kid would make somebody a great jogging partner. He is so much more relaxed now. With that, the cute is also coming out. He is soooo cute. He will lie down next to you on the floor and sometimes put both paws on your knees. And he is an expert in giving lab leans and lab grins. He loves being loved and being with people. And he's good at play bowing and play bowing and play bowing -- trying to find the combination on the lock to make Chloe play with him. He is so persistent and she is so apathetic.

Superstar is a 10 year old spayed black female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 95 lbs and should lose 5-10 lbs.
Update from foster family - 5/11/2013
Superstar (we call her Tess) is doing great. She gets along really well with our three dogs and she's good with cats. This 10-year old gal says age is nothing more than a number. She is the happiest dog in town when you wake up in the morning - she grabs her toy and comes bouncing over to you with her tail wagging a mile a minute. She spent the workday home with run of the house and showed she has perfect house manners. She loves carrying her toys and tennis balls around. Her dilemma: does she drop the ball to get a drink of water? Her solution: she drops the ball in the water bowl, drinks some water, and picks the ball back up. She knows "sit" and "give paw". She's very laid back, content to rest on the floor while I'm on the computer or watching television. She doesn't jump up on furniture. She has no problems going up and down stairs. This sweet gal will make a fine companion for most any family - with or without another dog.

Titus is a 1 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive; Lab Rescue will pay for his shots. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 42 lbs. He is a sweet, friendly excited boy wh loves to interact with everyone around him. He loves treats and attention. He's a typical young lab with lots of energy but he does OK.
Update from Titus' foster family - 5/21/2013
Titus is doing well and is acclimating to life indoors. He is crate trained and house trained. He also loves to be outside and will explore everything around him. He does well with our dog and always wants to play! Titus walks pretty well on a leash - if there isn't another dog or people around, he will walk next to you otherwise he will want to go visit whoever he sees - he is friendly and social. We gave him a bath the second night and he turned a lighter color and is very soft! He did well in the bathtub. Titus will let us touch his feet, ears, and tail. He has learned the sit command and is a pretty good listener.

Winston is a 2 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs but needs to go to a home without cats or fowl. He is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 79 lbs. Winston needs to go to a home with another dog.
Update from Winston's foster family 5/21/2013:
Winston is one of the sweetest guests we have had the pleasure of fostering. He is such a gentle dog who just wants to be by your side and please you. He lives for ear scratches and belly rubs. He likes to hang out in his crate (we keep the door open so he can come and go) when we’re not around. But mostly, he likes to play with our resident lab and lay on our feet. He has the most hypnotic eyes (a sort of golden yellow) and a wide lab “grin.” He is house trained and knows “sit” and will come when called. He is a perfect gentleman on a leash and even knows the “heal” command.
Winston is a little shy at first, but quickly warms up to people. He is super-mellow and is very polite and plays well with our resident lab. This gentle soul is just looking for a loving home to add some lab-companionship too.

He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 45 lbs. He knows some commands including sit and is working on down but would benefit from some additional training. He walks ok on a lead but does better with an EZ Walk harness. He is gentle and friendly and adores people.
Update from Xander's foster family - 9/25/2012
Xander has settled in nicely here. He loves to play with my two labs and has good house manners. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is gaining weight nicely and has a wonderful appetite. He is very sweet and affectionate and good on leash too. He rides well. Xander loves balls and toys and will play as long as you will let him! He has to carry a ball or toy around in his mouth all the time. It is very cute. He is not destructive of toys at all, he just loves to carry them around! He really has a great personality and is getting more handsome every day as he gains weight. Just thought I would share this funny video with you. This is how he lets us know that they are all ready to come back in the house LOL. He is like "Hey! Whatcha doing in there? Come let us in!" It is too cute!
