Tommie Clare // President
Tommie started volunteering for Lab Rescue in 1998. As Team Lead for Richmond, Tommie wears many hats, including transporting, vetting, intake, foster recruitment, and coordination. She is also the Lead Housecheck Coordinator for Virginia, NC, and DC and recently became the Lead Intake Coordinator, as well as Team Lead, for the growing North Carolina effort. Tommie tried her hand at fostering but conceded she isn’t very good at it, having adopted all but one of her fosters over the years (6 in total) with the most recent being Lacy, who is now 11 years old and Jaxx, who just turned 6. Tommie is an IT Professional for a local government utility department but hopes to retire in the very near future to devote more time to her growing family and rescue. 
 

Dawn Pfaff // Vice President

Dawn is a lifelong dog lover and began volunteering with Greyhound Welfare in 2004 after adopting her second greyhound, but labs have always been her first love. In 2006, she adopted her first lab from Lab Rescue. She became involved in the Lab Rescue in 2015 after adopting her second dog, Raven. She started as an Adoption Coordinator and has since helped with transporting, fostering and adoption events.  She currently serves as our Adoption Coordinator Director and has the responsibility for recruiting, training, and mentoring new Adoption Coordinators, handling applications, and ensuring proper guidance to new adopters. Currently, she works as an equity trader for an investment firm in downtown Baltimore. Her current Lab Rescue pups, Cali and TJ, share their home with a rescued ex-racing greyhound, Piper and their daddy, John.

Nan Bennett // Treasurer

Nan began volunteering as a Lab-Rescue dog-fosterer in 2010; her first was a loving senior dog named Bennie. Nan continued with many more foster dogs who came to reside in her home with her loving husband and her two permanent rescue labs (Lily & Cindy). As most dog foster parents probably know; not all dogs end up leaving. That being said; Nan and her husband David are also proud of their two foster failures (Susie and May) who decided that they wanted to stay and never leave. In addition to her fostering, Nan expanded into other Lab-Rescue volunteer areas including post adoption house checks, being an adoption coordinator, and “diligently” assuring that all adopted dogs were Micro-chipped and registered with their new human companions. Nan is a CPA and pleased to put her skills to good use!

Carol Lagundo // Member

Carol first started volunteering for Lab Rescue in 2008 after attending an adoption day event.  She and her husband have fostered countless Labs and have adopted several senior and blind Labs over the years. They currently share their home with three Lab Rescue alumni:  Purdy, Belle, Badger, and Peanut. Carol serves as the event manager for the Annual Lab Rescue Dog Walk and the Annual Online Holiday Auction.

Cyndi Bruton // Member

Cyndi became involved with lab rescue in 2009 to help with education and understanding of the breed after seeing the challenges with her first lab and lab mix, Domino and Mungo. She started off as a transporter and quickly moved into multiple roles within the rescue. Her first foster in 2016, with lab rescue, was a blind lab named Paisley. Her most memorable foster was a sweet lab named Blanche, though she truly loves them all. Over the past few years, she has also taken on the role of working with shelters and owners in NC to bring 100’s of labs in need to our rescue. She continues to make a positive impact in that region. More recently relocating to the Tidewater area, she has assumed the role of the Tidewater House Check Coordinator and has gotten involved in community events in that area to continue to promote the work that lab rescue does. She started volunteering in shelters and with rescues at the age of 13 and plans to continue the work for as long as she is able.

Christine Oppy Woods // Member

Chris first volunteered with Lab Rescue in 2012 after adopting her heart dog, Cash. She enjoyed the roles of transporter, house checker, adoption coordinator and foster before moving behind the scenes to support the foster team, mentor fosters and serve as Social Media Coordinator. She is currently on a professional sabbatical from a career in finance, loving the extra time with her family, resident pup, Banning, and foster dogs.

Sterrie Weaver // Member Emeritus
Sterrie retired as a Captain in the US Navy after 38 years of service and started volunteering with Lab Rescue after he saw a plea for fosters in 2002. He has held many volunteer positions and has been a board member since 2006, ably assisted by his wife Fran. They have fostered many Labs and litters of puppies. They are 5-time foster failures, having adopted Bailey in 2004, Baby Girl and Mia in 2008, Molly in 2012, and Jake from State Farm in 2015.

Mori Green // Member Emeritus

Mori first adopted from Lab Rescue in 2008; she and her husband then began volunteering at events, transporting, and fostering. In 2011 Mori became an Adoption Coordinator; she has placed over 600 Labs in their forever homes. She oversees new foster orientation, is a Puppy Coordinator and handles foster crate logistics. Nine beloved Labs have graced their home: Cinders, Kells, and Madoc who were rescued in Alaska, Caleb from California, and Lab Rescue alums Cassie (2008), Tyson (2011), Max (2017), and now bonded pair Jake and Walter (2021).
