Stevie (#180127)

Apr 6, 2018: Stevie is a sweet, smart, handsome boy. He loves to play outside and go for walks, but is also content to curl up by your feet inside. When walking, he sometimes pulls a little on the leash if he is excited, but quickly settles into a nice walking pace. He is house trained, but is not particularly fond of his crate, which is no problem at all as he has excellent house manners and has not needed to be crated overnight or when his foster family is out during the day. He loves belly rubs and greets people and other dogs with a wagging tail. Stevie takes treats with a very gentle mouth, loves to ride in the car, and is making progress with basic commands such as "sit" and "down." He is very bright and will learn quickly from a consistent and patient family. Stevie is blind in one eye and has limited vision in the other, but this doesn't slow him down a bit. He uses his sharp nose and keen hearing to quickly adapt to his surroundings. He also likes to stay close to his humans and listens intently to the sound of their voices and footsteps. Stevie would love a forever home with a family that will give him all the love and cuddles he craves. He will not like to be put in a crate or left alone for long periods of time. Another young dog to romp around with would be a bonus, as Stevie enjoys playing with his canine companions. Open stairwells in the house should be gated to provide the safest environment for Stevie, but this is the only adaptation he seems to need, as he sees everything else with his nose, ears and heart.

Mar 22, 2018: Stevie may be vision impaired, but it doesn't stop him from playing hard. He loves, loves, loves to play with other dogs. I can't say enough good things about this sweet pup.

Mar 19, 2018: Stevie visited the eye doctor today, and he has a mature cataract in his right eye, as well as retinal degeneration in the left eye. The doctor thinks that this was caused by trauma, by some old injury. He is not a candidate for surgery and eventually, he will lose his sight in the left eye, too. However, this Stevie is a character. He is so personable and outgoing, and if you have treats, he is your best friend. He takes them gently and has kisses for everyone. He did great meeting my cat and when she rubbed up against him, he just wagged his tail faster. He slept on one of the dog beds all night without making a peep., and he played endlessly with the young resident female. He met the older male lab who is also blind, and they did well. I love this boy!
Mar 18, 2018: Stevie is checking in this beautiful afternoon after spending time outside playing with the younger resident dog and trying to figure out how to get to the chickens that make fascinating sounds. He is excited because tomorrow he goes to the eye doctor to figure out why he appears to be blind in one eye. More news on that tomorrow. Stevie is wonderful meeting other dogs and humans. We'll see what the cat has to say later today.
Mar 14, 2018: Stevie is a fun, energetic boy!! He gets along with every dog and person he’s met though the (older) resident pup thinks he’s a little too playful sometimes. He has some vision impairment but that doesn’t slow him down. He went right into his new foster home and found the water and food bowl right away. Stevie would do great in a fenced in yard but also loves going on walks to see and smell all there is to see. Stevie pulls a bit on leash but using an “easy walk harness” helps slow him down and allow him to be guided around obstacles he has trouble seeing and would bump into otherwise.. He acts totally housebroken with no accidents so far. Stevie has run of the house but spent his first night crated since he didn’t want to go to sleep and kept wanting to play with the resident pup. He wasn’t a big fan of the crate and whined a bit at first but eventually dozed off.
Stevie is a handsome boy. He has a soft, beautiful black coat with a splash of white on his chest and a couple of white toes to match. He will make a wonderful, loving addition to some lucky family.
Stevie is a 3 year old neutered black male who weighs 59 lbs. He is current with his shots and is heart worm negative. Stevie is good with dogs; unknown with cats; and approved for kids 10 and up. Placement is currently limited to single family homes with a physical fence in a suburban neighborhood or rural setting.
Stevie is blind in his right eye and has limited sight in his left eye; but he doesn’t let his sight limitations hold him back. He is a very sweet and friendly boy. He loves other dogs and people and prefers to have company - either human or canine, preferably both. Stevie is house trained and crate trained; although he doesn’t like the crate and doesn’t seem to need it.
